Last Saturday, I had the pleasure of attending the annual fundraiser, put together by the ladies of the Red Pump Project. In their seventh year, they have continued to show support of the women and girls affected by the HIV/AIDS virus. Co-founders, Luvvie Ajayi and Karyn Lee, warmly greeted guests as they made their way inside, stopping for pictures in the foyer.
This year, they honored Betty Smith, founder of the South Side Help Center (Chicago) because of her service to the community for the past 21 years. Much like RPP, the Ultimate Red Pump Rocker set out to provide positive alternatives to healthy living as a response to the alarming number of Black men she saw dying from HIV/AIDS while working at a local hospital.
Check out the slide show below to see photos from the event as well as some of the looks from the many designers showcased in the show.
